Welcome to my staff bio. You have chosen well.

Having grown up in southwest Washington, I developed strong, if irrational, preferences for fir trees, mountain ranges, the Seattle Mariners, rainy-day reading, good coffee, and flip-flops. As a young lad, I was fascinated by the Bible and tales of missionaries (though I confess my parents paid me to read the former). So after graduating from CAM High School in Battle Ground, WA, I went straight into pursing a degree in biblical studies at Multnomah Bible College in Portland, OR, where I spent way too much time because I kept adding majors. Admittedly, but unashamedly, I’m a huge literature, language, and history nerd, especially when it comes to Scripture and the Church. When most twenty-somethings were figuring out how to adult, I traded that for learning how to read dead languages and understanding the lifestyles and cultures of people thousands of years gone. No regrets. Yet.

After finishing my bachelor’s degree, I visited the small country of Hungary several times to work with churches and teenagers. Eventually I just moved over there to be a high school English teacher and spent several years in a town delightfully named Székesfehérvár. Upon returning to the states, I went to Multnomah Biblical Seminary and graduated in 2019 with a master’s degree in biblical studies, focusing on the Greek New Testament, the historical development of theology in the church, and cultural engagement. Yes, yes, I know.

Yet in school and out, stateside and overseas, most of my focus has been working with youth, though my journey has taken me to serve in pretty much every area in the church, from children’s ministry, to youth ministry, to young adults, and to adult-equipping. However, I most love working with teenagers and young adults (which is fortunate since I’m predominantly a youth pastor). Two of my greatest passions are learning how to follow Jesus and following him with others, and I especially love working these out by talking about old, dead Christians and having people over for dinner, boardgames, and coffee. I’m not sure that there is any greater, more meaningful, and yes, more challenging, adventure than living out, and figuring out, the life of Christ with others. I look forward to doing so with you.
